The Cancer Club - Christine Clifford BeckwithThe Cancer Club - Christine Clifford Beckwith

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you! I went and saw the movie "Valentine's Day" with a huge cast of characters. There was a line I thought was really fun. Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner ( a true life couple for about two months) were making out on the football field. A newscaster was interviewing them about Valentine's Day and was watching their passionate kissing. He said to the cameraman, "Boy, I really miss high school."

Those were the good old days, weren't they? Care free, bright futures, full of optimism. Our lives can still feel that way, despite a diagnosis of cancer. Most certainly, none of us would have wished this on our worst enemy (you know, that person in high school who teased us all the time!). But that doesn't mean that we can't still have a fabulous life, a life like we did in high school.

I read a terrific quote a few weeks ago. It said, "We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." (Joseph Campbell).

I certainly didn't know that my life would be so touched by cancer, but I've had a life I never dreamed possible. As I've traveled the country so far this year, I've been especially touched by the people I've met along the way. I would never have encountered these people if I hadn't had cancer.

Valentine's Day always reminds me of so many of you: the people I've met along the way. I feel the love and support of so many-- from complete strangers, to people I've only known for moments of time. So think back to high school. Remember what it was like to be "young and in love." And then look all around you-- at all the people who love you now and are here for you as you travel on your journey. Tell everyone you know, "I love you." And don't forget to laugh! TM

SUGAR POWER!

sugar power

Given that it's Valentine's Day, wouldn't it be great to discover that sugar is actually good for you? Although glycoscience, the study of sugar's role in health, is still in its infancy, research shows that some sugars are just that. Glucose and galactose, the most common sugars, are not healthy. However, other sugars found in corn, aloe vera and breast milk, have been found to treat high cholesterol and obesity. These sugars can even lessen the toxic effects of chemotherapy. So grab an orange and head to your treatments. Sweet dreams!

THE CHAT ROOM

Dear Cancer Club,

As my first morning at the radiation treatment center progressed, I was measured for my protective lead alloy molds, experienced a simulation run-through, and had a Computerized Tomography scan. I tried valiantly to absorb the new terminology and technology and to lie perfectly still during the various procedures.

I forgot about my husband's Valentine's Day request until I noticed that the right side of my chest had acquired an array of ugly, black felt-tip pen markings. The thirty-something male technician was placing wide strips of transparent tape over the marks and explaining, "These markings are made with permanent marker, but I'm putting tape over them to make sure they don't wash off before your next appointment." He must have read the dismay in my eyes, because he continued, "You don't have a problem with that, do you?"

Feeling a bit vulnerable and foolish lying on the table, bare from the waist up except for my black marks and transparent tape strips, I blurted out my husband's Valentine's Day request. "If this was any day but Valentine's Day, I wouldn't care... but I don't think my husband had black marks and tape strips in mind when he said he hoped I'd wear my transparent negligee tonight."

Blushing a rosier rose than my soon-to-be worn negligee, the technician walked to a cabinet and returned with a handful of small packets. Handing them to me, he said with a wink, "It's too long to expect you to keep these marks intact anyway. Just peel the tape off and use these cleaning pads to remove the marks. I'll re-mark when you come in for your next appointment." As I left the room, he smiled and said, "You two have a great Valentine's Day!"

Dear Cancer Club,

I was telling my young daughter about my upcoming cancer surgery and treatments. I explained that I might become sick and lose my hair. My daughter turned to me and asked, "Mom, will it cure your stinky breath?"

Angie Olsen, Kalispell, MT

Dear Cancer Club,

I'm an odd duck. I knew how to whistle when I was still in my baby bed. Unfortunately, there was no demand for a whistling baby, child, teenager, or adult-- until I underwent treatment for a very aggressive form of breast cancer four years ago.

Unbeknownst to me, the staff in the radiation department could hear every sound in the room where I changed in preparation for my daily "zapping." After finishing a rousing rendition of "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning," I discovered that I had a fan club standing outside the door!

It seemed that a new and different (mostly male) technician gave each treatment. So on my last day, I wasn't too surprised when one of the guys said he had fourteen friends, waiting outside to observe. I laughingly told him that they might as well come in, but that they must all take responsibility for my new career as a speaker. I didn't bat an eyelash (I didn't have any to bat anyway!).

I just smiled sweetly and said, "Since almost all the men in this county have seen me without my blouse, my days as a topless dancer are over." That brought down the house! Now I speak and whistle for churches, schools, and assorted gatherings, bringing the message that faith, laughter and music helped me face breast cancer with a positive attitude.

TRUESCIENCE REALLY WORKS!

Last month, The Cancer Club told you about an exciting new all natural supplement that is helping people like me~ Christine Clifford~ improve my energy level, helping me sleep better and giving me more focus and clarity instead of "chemo brain." This month, I have another exciting new product that has helped me with my skin.

TrueScience skincare lotion was just launched only two months ago. And I have become the Poster Child for the company's advertising campaign, thanks to the incredible results I've experienced.

When I went through ten months of high-dose chemotherapy almost fifteen years ago, I was forced in to menopause at the age of 40. With no estrogen to support my skin tone, combined with growing up in southern California (and spending every waking moment of my childhood in the sun), my skin was damaged.

Only two months of using TrueScience have improved my collagen, removed sun and age spots, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, and helped me feel the best I've felt in years about my appearance. I invite you to preview my "Before & After" photos and to call us today.

I would personally like to encourage all of you to visit www.LifeVantage.com/LiveYoung, watch the ABC Prime Time video, and call me personally to tell you how you can improve your health starting today.
